( Updated Version)"Lalala......" I hummed as I walked down the usual old street home.It was a tranquil night. The lights in houses of my neighbourhood were snuffed out. Shadows of the terace houses were 'painted' at the stone path.Everyone seems to be asleep.As I was about to walk into my home, I heard a loud carsh came from my nighbour's house. What was that? What could it be? I slowly climbed up the wall which divides my house and the neighbour's house to only see the worst thing in my life.
Blood gushed out of the gaping wound. He was lying motionlessly on the ground. Not moving at all.My neighbour is dead. Two sinister men wearing scarves over their face, with broad arms and tattoos on their shoulders each holding a knife with red stain on it. My legs went jelly. I immeidiately quietly ran back to my house and look for help. Not too waste any more time, I dialled 999. Just then, my older brother, Jack came out of his room for water and saw me looking so afraid.
" What happen?" He asked. Not wanting to hide the truth from him, I put my finger on his lips and pulled him to the wall.
" Quietly take a peek!" I said in a soft whisper. Following my instructions, he took a peek and his face turned green.
" What have they done to Uncle Lim? Is he dead?"
" They killed him of course! Thay must be robbers." As a member of the Police Force, Jack knew how to handle this situation. He ordered me to stay in the house and he went to confront the robbers.
The robbers were happily taking jewels and cash. As quiet as a mouse, Jack shouted," Stop! What do you think you are doing?" The roobbors were shocked and spun around to see my brother.
" Ah Seng and Ah Tong?" Jack said. Ah Seng and Ah Tong? The two notorious robbers? I could only hear my brother voice as I climbed up the wall to take a closer look.
" So, you know our names.Since you found out about our names, you will end up like this stubborn fool. " Ah Seng talked in a sinister voice as he pointed to Uncle Lim.
Ah Tong took out a knife and ran towards Jack. Instinctively, he dodged. Jack gave Ah Tong's arm a wrench." This will teach you a lesson!" Jack said with pride.
"Let go of me! Let go!!" Ah Tong shouted in pain. Serve them right! I thought.
Seeing that Jack had been distracted, Ah Seng grabbed this golden opputunity and ran towards him while holding a knife.
Seeing that my brother might be in danger, I dashed out to save him. Being a nimble runner, I managed to shield my brother from the assualt in the nick of the time. I shut my eyes as i waited for death. Seconds seemed minutes. Minutes seemed hours. Still nothing. Not a single sound. I gather all my courage and opened my eyes. Jack was standing in front of me."Tom, are you alright?" He asked. He turn his head around and smiled a weak smile at me. His face had red dots on it. Blood was seen on his T-shirt. A few second passed and Jack fell to the ground.
" Haha! Your brother is dead! No one will protect you now, little boy!" Ah Seng said loudly.Ah Seng tried to kill us but to no avail as the police had arrived.
"Police! Freeze or we will shoot!"
The police officers immediately sprang into action. They pulled their guns and confronted Ah Seng and Ah Tong without battling their eyelids. Bang! Gunshots rang high into the tense air. Ah Seng and Ah Tong moves no more.
Tears rolled down my rosy cheeks as I looked at my brother. He saved me." Hey, don't cry. Thats what Big Brothers are for right? It is my duty to protect you." The ambulance arrived and the paremedics sent my brother to the hospital.
Our parents are informed of the incident. They immediately rushed to the hospital. Thank God that Jack was fine and he only have ten stiches on his stomach. When he was discharged, I hugged him tightly and said, " Thank You."
