One word to describe this trip, Hot! The weather there was very humid, warm. We took about more than one hour to get to our destination. When we got there a stale, smelly air greeted us. It stinks! As we were walking towards the entrance, I am able to feel that sweat and perspiration started to pepper my face. It was quite warm outside, what more the inside.
We were late. 6A got to work way faster than us as we were delayed by some little "accidents". Without further-a-do, we immediately got to our groups. Mine is A3.
After all that, we procced to a bridge. This bridge is called the Main Bridge. Beneath us are water flowing from the rivers in Singapore to Sungei Buloh to the Johore Straits. The water is so dirty. The only things I saw was RUBBISH. This shows that some people littered in rivers. Our tour guide told us the origins of this beach and the native animals. She than distrubute the worksheet to us. As I was browsing through the pages, I spotted a picture which says, Saltwater Crocodile. Crocodiles. The mention of this animal just gives us the creeps. The tour guide told us that there are 2 crocodiles living in this area. But, they won't attack us. The eco-system in that area was balanced. There were many fish;food for the crocodiles to consume. In my opinion, I think that most of us wanted to see a crocodile.
"Fish!" Many fishes were swimming freely around the water. Cool. The tour guide taught us how to do some tricks : Use our worksheets and block the sunlihht from the fishes and they will jump. Why? That is a behavourial adaptation. When we prevent the sunlight from reaching the fishes, they will thought that a predator is here. Hence, they jump and swam away quickly.
Next, we went on to talk about the salt on the leaves. I tasted it and taste nothing. Some of my friends said it was salty, but I can't taste it. Weird. We found a lobster house and began to observe it. Not only we found out that the mud lobsters are shy, hence, they will only come out at night;nocturnal animals. There are also other animals living in there. So it is a Habitat.
When we were walking back to the bridge. we noticed vibrations, big vibrations in the waters. " Crocodiles!" Jia Xuan shouted.
" Where?" we asked. Looking closer, it was garbage. We felt disappointed.
Just then, we saw a fish jumped out of the water and big vibrations followed. What else? Its a crocodile eating a fish. It was gone in split seconds. everyone took out their phones looking for the big creature. But it was gone. Once again, we were disappointed. We lost our chance.
Later in the afternoon, we went in to the Mangrove Boardwalks. The weather was getting hotter. The sight that greeted us was many mangrove and their big, Big roots. The tour guides warn us not to use our phones as the distance between the planks and the ground will be further and further away. Plus, the ground will be wetter. Swampy. If you dropped your stuff. Thats it.
We studied the plants and animals we found on the way. Eg: Tree climbing crabs, Dog-head snake, mud skipper and Horse shoe crab. We were lucky to see many animals. And the finale is...... Monkey!
JIa Jun and Jia Xing were walking towards the pavillion, our final destination and they saw a Long Tail Mascal. I was one of the first to see it too. The mascal was up at the roof for shelter. I think the monkey is afraid of the heat too. I immediately informed the tour guide and every one scurried to the pavillion. Because of the noise, the monkey "slide" down. Girls screamed. Jia Xing did a funny face to the monkey and the monkey attacked us by making the first move. Showing his sharp teeth. Scary! Absolutely hair-raising! Even the boys were scared. We felt apoplexy. The tour guide ordered us to keep down our voices. Sure enough, the monkey walk off. Thank Goodness!
What I had learnt in this trip is....
1) The behavourial and stuctural adaptation of the animals
2) Never disturb any animals or the consequences will be bad.
'Choices have consequences'
3) The habitat of the animals
4) Different types of plants and animals
5) The advantages and disadvantages of the plants and animals.
6) The products of the plants. Eg: Fire wood.
